Law scotched
HOW heart-warming to see the SNP’s enforced wokery law fall at the first hurdle.
Turns out it is “not criminal” to call a transwoman a man, as JK Rowling has established.

Unless, that is, Scottish police have separate rules for beloved authors with deep pockets — and still intend to hound those of lesser means for saying the same thing.
We would not put it past them to try.
But we congratulate the Harry Potter creator for a first victory against this Stalinist assault on free speech dressed up as a campaign against hate.
And we welcome the Tories and Labour insisting that no such nonsense would ever get the nod in England.
Why did Labour back it in Scotland?
Total shower
INEVITABLY, after the wettest year ever, British thoughts turn to hosepipe bans.
Water firms should fear the public’s wrath if their negligence somehow enables a dry summer to negate all these Biblical downpours. In fairness, though, it would not be solely their fault.
Under Labour and Tory Governments we have not opened a major reservoir since 1992, despite being 30 short and with our population up by 11 million.
Ofwat is urging the water giants to invest. Fine. But reservoirs are routinely blocked by ferocious NIMBYs, championed by opportunist politicians.
Nationalisation would solve nothing. All investment would then dry up.
But Britain MUST build. We cannot lurch endlessly from flood to drought.
Open borders
WHAT a confession: Labour would not be able to stop the small boats either.
Promising that would be “over- claiming”, admits key Starmer aide Pat McFadden. Which is surprising.
Up to now Labour’s frontbenchers made it sound so simple. It just meant “smashing the smuggling gangs” and “a new deal with France”. McFadden essentially says they won’t solve it either.
And yet the Rwanda deterrent would be axed “even if it worked”.
From which voters can surely conclude only this: Labour doesn’t care about illegal migration and isn’t serious about ending it.
Lethal error
THE killing by Israeli forces of Gaza charity workers and three British security guards is a catastrophic and tragic blunder.
Israel has at least held its hands up — in stark contrast to Hamas, which blames Jews for its own atrocities.
The IDF must urgently identify those behind this intelligence failure or recklessness. We believe it will. It is a sophisticated and ordinarily supremely disciplined military force.
Unlike the racist cut-throats hiding behind women and children.
