Surat: As per the order given by the State Department of Industry and Mines to the Director of GIDC, the Board of Management of 20 notified GIDCs of the state has been suspended by the Government. GIDC has appointed a regional manager as chairman of the board of management.

According to sources, the government has appointed a superintendent and regional manager of GIDC as chairman, citing growing interference of elected representatives of industrial bodies in the board of management in development works. The government has dismissed the board of management in 20 GIDCs out of which Hazira, Sachin, Vapi, Ankleshwar, Umargam, Sarigam, Valsad, Panoli, Zaghadiya, Palej and Bharuch GIDCs have got 11 GIDCs from South Gujarat. Other GIDCs include Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Mehsana, Vadodara, Bhavnagar, Junagadh, Bhuj, VU Nagar, Surendranagar and Gandhinagar GIDCs.
As most of the controversy was between two groups of industrialists in South Gujarat’s Vapi, Ankleshwar, Panoli and Sachin GIDC, complaints and allegations of corruption were also written to GIDC’s VC-MD M. Thennarshan. Complaints were also lodged in Saurashtra. Following which the government will remove the elected representatives of industrial societies from the post of Chairman of the Board of Management of GIDC and a new Board of Management will be formed as per the new rules. And Industrial Coop. The elected president, secretary of the society as a member will be able to make suggestions in development works.
Formerly the Chairman of the Board of Management, the President of the Industrial Co-operative Society of GIDC was the By-Post Chairman of the Board of Management of GIDC. In addition, entrepreneurs like Secretary, Higher Tax Pair, Social Services Representative in GIDC and Major Users were appointed as members. The battle of the industrialists has created a situation where government officials have come to power. Officials used to carry out development works as per the wishes of the industrialists, now the officers will be able to work independently.
What was happening now
At present the elected chairman of the Industrial Society of GIDC is directly becoming the notified chairman. He was able to carry out development work of GIDC such as roads, water, drainage and street lights as per his position and the officials had to carry out his instructions.
What will happen now?
Now that the government has appointed the superintendent and regional manager of GIDC as chairman, the board of the industrial society will not be able to take any decision. Now any development work will be decided by the officer. The Chairman of the Industrial Society in this committee will be limited to a member and will only be able to make suggestions.
