Vadodara: First National Sports Festival(National Games) is being organized in Gujarat. Athletes from 36 states and union territories will participate in the 36th Games which will be played in Gujarat. 36 games will be played in this sports festival. The special thing about this sports festival is that this time the players of Vadodara will enter the field with a special traditional game. 12 players from Vadodara, Gujarat will represent Gujarat in Malakhamb. In this team from Vadodara, 6 girls and 6 boys will participate in Malkhamb. Players are in high spirits due to inclusion of Malkhambha game in National Sports Festival.

Malkhamb Federation of India has selected Rahul Choksi, Secretary of Malkhamb Mandal as the Technical Director for this sports competition. Sports Authority of India and Gujarat Sports Minister Harsh Sanghvi also congratulated Malakhamb for national recognition. The selected girls team consists of Heni Shah, Ekta Mistry, Nupur Barot, Khushi Patel, Dia Joshi and Netra Barot. While the boys team consists of Parshav Rana, Meenal Wagh, Shauryajit Khaire, Hiren Kulkarni, Atharva Joglekar and Rudra Rajput. Players said that the sport of Malkhambha is an invaluable part of Vadodara’s athletic heritage. Happily, this year, for the first time, Malkhambha has been included in the national sports festival held in Gujarat.

A one-day team selection process was attended by 50 Malkhambha adept athletes from Vadodara and Dahod gymnasiums from which the Vadodara team has been selected. So now this indigenous sport of Malkhambha has got a place in the international sports festival.
