Kathmandu: Nepal has once again been rocked by a strong earthquake. The magnitude of the earthquake was measured at 5.5 on the Richter scale. The earthquake occurred 147 km away from Kathmandu. The earthquake occurred at 8:13 am according to Nepal time. According to Nepal’s National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center (NEMRC), the earthquake occurred at a place called Maratim Birta in Khotang district. The epicenter of the earthquake was recorded at a radius of 10 km from East Nepal. No casualties have been reported due to this earthquake in Nepal. A large number of casualties and damage were seen in Nepal due to the recently recorded earthquakes. An earthquake of magnitude 7.8 occurred between Nepal’s capital Kathmandu and Pokhara city. This earthquake wreaked havoc in Nepal. Due to this earthquake, 8,964 people died in Nepal and around 22 thousand people were injured. This devastating earthquake in Nepal is also known as the Gorkha earthquake. The earthquake shook parts of Pakistan and Bangladesh, including several cities in northern India. The airport in Kathmandu had to be closed due to the earthquake. The earthquake triggered an avalanche on Mount Everest, killing 22 people. On 12 May 2015, an earthquake also caused destruction. Its epicenter was between Kathmandu and Mount Everest near the Chinese border. More than 200 people lost their lives and more than 2500 people were injured due to this earthquake. In 1934, the worst earthquake ever occurred in Nepal. Its magnitude was recorded as 8.0 on the Richter scale. It devastated Bhaktapur and Patan in Nepal, including its capital Kathmandu.
