Liquor is allowed in other states of the country but there is prohibition of alcohol in Gujarat. However, people are not unaware that liquor is sold openly in Gujarat and Surat. Be it December 31 or Uttarayan festival or any other festival, the party is incomplete without drinking alcohol. And as if something is left, Surtis sometimes take off from Daman on holidays. However, efforts are being made by the government to implement liquor ban in Gujarat. But there is one country in the world where the government itself is telling people to drink more alcohol. For this the government there has run a campaign of Ritsar.
It is learned that the Japanese government is running ‘The Sake Viva Campaign’ to encourage people to drink more alcohol. This is a competition in which people are encouraged to drink as much alcohol as possible. Run by the National Tax Agency (NTA), the competition invites 20-39 year olds to help boost the popularity of alcohol. The competition is currently underway in Japan and will run until September 9. This calls for increased use of not only new alcohol products but also old products. Apart from this, it is also being asked to revive the habit of drinking alcohol regularly at home.
Why is this campaign being conducted?
Due to corona virus, people have reduced drinking alcohol here. The main reason is the availability of alcohol and not being able to party with friends. Earlier, most people used to drink alcohol with friends after office, which has stopped now after Corona. Not only liquor but also beer sales have gone down here. Beer sales fell 20% to less than 1.8 billion litres. Due to the decline in consumption of alcohol, the revenue generated from it has decreased. Due to which the concern of the Japanese government has increased. This is the reason why the government here is encouraging people to drink more and more alcohol. For this, the government has started a nationwide competition.
Statistics presented by Govt
Per capita beer consumption in Japan in 2020 was 55 bottles. In 2021 this was reduced to 9.1%. In the 2020 fiscal year, the Japanese government lost more than 110 billion pounds in revenue from taxes on alcohol compared to 1980. Last year the NTA said in early August that it was the biggest drop in alcohol tax revenue in 31 years. Japan’s health ministry said it hoped the campaign would encourage people to drink only limited amounts of alcohol. He said that the finalists of ‘The Sake Viva Campaign’ competition will be invited to a gala award ceremony to be held in Tokyo on November 10.
