LONDON: India-born Suella Braverman is likely to become the only British politician of Indian heritage in the new cabinet, if UK media speculation is to be believed that Foreign Secretary Liz Truss could beat Rishi Sunak to be elected Conservative Party leader and British Prime Minister on Monday. Liz Truss, 47, is among his top team and is considering promoting Braverman to replace Priti Patel as home secretary.
A contender in the early rounds of the Tory leadership contest, 42-year-old Goa-born Braverman currently holds the post of attorney general. After being knocked out in a second round of balloting by fellow Tory MPs in mid-July, she threw her weight behind Truss and called on her supporters to follow suit. Braverman said, “Liz is ready to be PM now. He does not need to learn work. This work is difficult. It just needs to be done right. It has been a difficult six years for the party and stability is needed urgently and quickly.”
