New Delhi: The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that every 44 seconds globally, one person is dying of Kovid-19. The head of the WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said that this virus will not end like this. In his latest remarks, he said the global decline in reported cases and deaths has continued. This is very exciting. But there is no guarantee that this kind of situation will be maintained.
Ghebreyesus said during his regular briefing that the number of deaths reported weekly since February could drop by more than 80 percent, even though one person died every 44 seconds from Covid-19 last week. He said most of those deaths were avoidable. You must be tired of hearing me say that the epidemic is not over. But I will keep saying it until this virus is gone.
The WHO will next week publish a set of 6 policy briefs outlining the immediate actions that all governments can use to reduce transmission and save lives. Briefly, the essential elements of testing, diagnostic systems, vaccination, infection prevention and control, risk communication and mass communication and infodemic systems will be included.
“We hope countries will use these briefs to reassess their policies to protect those most at risk, treat and save lives who need it,” the WHO chief said. Pandemics are always evolving and therefore every country must respond. On monkeypox, he said WHO is seeing a continuing downward trend in Europe.
