AHMEDABAD: The Gujarat women’s tennis team began their title defense with a resounding win over Telangana at the 36th National Games on Thursday, while the West Bengal women’s lawn bowls team maintained their rhythm with a thrilling 12-11 win over Assam. The Gujarat women’s tennis team dropped just four games to record a 2-0 win over Telangana at the Sabarmati Riverfront Sports Complex. They will now face Karnataka in the semi-finals to secure a spot in the final. Maharashtra will face Tamil Nadu in the second semi-final. Maharashtra defeated Delhi 2-0 while Tamil Nadu defeated Haryana.

In shooting, 2012 Olympic Games silver medalist Vijay Kumar (Himachal Pradesh) handled the pressure well and finished second behind Ankur Goyal (Uttrakhand) after the opening leg of the 25m rapid fire pistol event. Rhythm running Anish Bhanwal (Haryana) is ranked third in the men’s event.
