Surat: The entire textile chain and end users including local spinners, weavers, traders have got a big relief as the central government rejected the proposal to apply anti-dumping duty on the raw material PTA – MEG of yarn. The Director General of Trade and Remedies (DGTR) had rejected the central government’s decision to impose 10 to 20 percent anti-dumping duty on raw material imported from Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and America.
Chamber President Himanshu Bodawala has expressed his gratitude to MP and Gujarat BJP President CR Patil, Minister of State for Textiles Darshana Jardosh, Textile Secretary Upendra Prasad Singh and Textile Commissioner Roop Rashi who played an important role in taking this decision. Bodawala said that domestic spinners will benefit the most from this decision. As anti-dumping duty is not applied on PTA – MEG, the cost of textiles will stop. If anti-dumping duty is levied on the main raw material of yarn, the purchasing power of the textile middle class will go out.

- If the anti-dumping duty is imposed, the purchasing power of the textile middle class people will go out
With this decision of the central government, the spinners who are making MEG – PTA purchase yarn will be able to import good quality MEG-PTA and make good quality yarn. A petition was filed by the big companies in the DGTR regarding imposition of 10 to 20 percent anti-dumping duty. SGCCI, Fiaswi, Phogwa and Weaving Societies had protested against it. The Chamber made a technical representation to the Central Government and the DGTR for the wider interest of the textile industry. Mayur Golwala, chairman of the chamber’s anti-dumping duty committee, said that domestic spinners, who are yarn producers, will benefit more than weavers from this decision. In the future, if they do not drive the prices of ring yarn to artificial heights and the entire market remains on demand and supply, the future of the textile chain will look bright. The chamber is also fighting the DGTR’s recommendation to impose anti-dumping duty on viscose filament yarn.
