New Delhi: In Indonesia’s capital Jakarta on Monday, large buildings collapsed due to an earthquake. So far 162 people have died in this tragedy. Hundreds of people have also been injured. The magnitude of the earthquake was 5.6. A large number of people are buried under the debris. Rescue workers are reaching the scene on Tuesday to reach people trapped in the rubble after the earthquake. Rescue work is still going on so it can be said that the death toll may rise. The epicenter of the earthquake was near the city of Cianjur in the mountainous region of Indonesia’s most populous province.

National Police spokesman Dedi Prasetyo said hundreds of police officers were deployed for rescue operations on Tuesday morning. The victims have to be pulled out of the rubble. BNPB said it had confirmed 62 deaths, but could not confirm an additional 100 victims. Officials were working to reach the Kugenang area on Tuesday. The road is blocked here due to a landslide. Power supply has been disrupted in some areas.
