Berlin: (Berlin) Italy on Wednesday made Corona tests mandatory for all airline passengers coming from China. This decision has been taken after more than 50% of the passengers were found Corona positive in 2 flights from Beijing to Milan. Even though China says its Covid outbreak is ‘predictable and under control’, rising corona infections there have posed a global threat after Beijing suddenly lifted restrictions imposed under its zero-Covid policy. Amid the Corona crisis, the United States has also made the Corona test mandatory for Chinese tourists, becoming the 5th country in the world to do so. In 2020 also, Corona spread from China to Italy in a similar manner.
Out of 92 passengers, 35 (38%) were found to be Covid positive
Lombardy Regional Councilor Guido Bertolaso told the media, “35 (38%) of the 92 passengers of the first flight from China to Milan were found to be Covid positive. 62 (52%) of the 120 passengers of the second flight were found to be infected with Corona. Japan and India have started RT-PCR tests at the airport itself for passengers coming from China. Although there is no direct flight service between India and China, this step has been taken as a precautionary measure. From January 8, China is going to end the mandatory quarantine system for travelers arriving here. This move by Beijing has been greeted with enthusiasm by the Chinese citizens. There has been a huge surge in international flight bookings.
New strains of the virus may develop as a result of the increasing number of Covid cases in China
New measures are being taken along with India, Italy, Japan and Taiwan after China’s decision to remove zero-covid policies, US health officials said on Wednesday. Under this, from January 5, it will be mandatory for all air passengers aged 2 years and above to show a negative Corona report 2 days before departure from China, Hong Kong or Macau. Central officials said that passengers who test positive 10 days before the flight can present documents of recovery from Corona. US officials have expressed concern that new strains of the virus could develop as a result of the rising number of Covid cases in China.
