In the opening session of the meeting, PM Modi said, after many years of progress, today there is a danger that the pace of development may break and go backwards again.
The Prime Minister said many developing countries are currently burdened with debt for food and energy security, which they are unable to balance. We are meeting at a time when the world is divided. In the past few years we have seen economic crises, climate change, pandemics, terrorism and war. It is clear from this that global governance has failed. Institutions designed to handle the world’s most pressing issues are failing to meet the biggest challenges.
