Demonstrations against gun laws were held in 450 cities
- In June last year, thousands of people in 450 cities, including Washington, protested against gun law authority (the legal right to own a gun) in the US.
- Members of the protesting gun safety group March for Our Lives say they won’t sit down with the government. A protester said – people are dying. The government has to take strict measures. Now the law needs to be changed.
- After 231 years, America still hasn’t eradicated the gun culture. There are two reasons for this. First- Many Americans, from the President to the governors of the states there, have been advocating to preserve this culture. Second- the gun companies, i.e. the gun lobby, are also the main reason for the existence of this culture. According to a 2019 report, there were 63,000 licensed gun dealers in America, who sold guns worth Rs 83,000 crore to American citizens that year.
- In 1791, under the Second Amendment to the Constitution, US citizens were granted the right to keep and purchase arms. This culture started in America when the British ruled there. There was no permanent security force at that time, so people were given the right to bear arms to protect themselves and their families, but this law continues today.
