Paris: Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day visit to Paris, France has given India a much bigger offer than the GE-414 engine deal made by America.
The French government has proposed a deal with India to jointly design, develop, test and certify fighter jet engines. If India enters into an engine deal with France, it will be a huge boon for India’s twin-engine fighter jets as well as fighter jets operated from aircraft carriers.
An English newspaper has stated in its report that the technology that France wants to transfer has been exempted from the International Trade in Arms Regulation (ITAR). Also, France is ready to manufacture the 110 kg Newton engine for fighter jets entirely in India.
Recently DRDO chief Dr. Sameer V Kamat paid a special visit to the Safran Engine Factory and Research and Development Center where these engines are manufactured during the Paris Air Show.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had recently visited America. Where many agreements were signed between India and America in the field of defense and science. The most important agreement among these was to set up an engine plant in India by GE Aerospace Company of America. After this agreement, it is now clear that the engines of the fighter jets will now be made in India.
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited will help in this. Jets engines developed with the help of GE and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited will be used in India’s indigenous fighter aircraft Tejas-MK-2.
Although France has made an even more attractive offer for India than the US, the government has so far remained silent on the French proposal. According to sources, the government is considering the French proposal.
