From speakeasy bars to farmers markets, London is a treasure trove of hidden gems.
But one Canadian on TikTok got things a little mixed up when she excitedly shared a ‘discount bookstore’ for any bibliophiles heading to the capital.
So what is the name of this super cool discovery, we hear you ask? The Works.
Yep, the stationery, craft and book chain you’ve seen on many a British high street.
Morgan, who goes by @morgannbook on TikTok, said: ‘Next time you’re in London this is the bookstore you need to go to.
‘It’s called The Works and it’s a discount bookstore… the store honestly gets my BookTok stamp of approval.
‘They had a lot of current favourite romance books… they do have other genres as well but they’re kind of hidden so you do have to look.’

To be fair to Morgan, she got some things right. The Works is pretty cheap – she shared how she picked up all five books in the Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi for just £15.
But people in the comments were quick to explain that it isn’t exactly a hidden gem, and not the quaint Notting Hill style book shop you might usually see on TikTok. ‘Absolutely crying at this,’ wrote abbie.breeze. ‘I never anticipated a hype video for The Works.’
While commenter Indya added: ‘This has made my day.’
And of course, there was some classic British ribbing thrown in too. ‘I prefer indie stories like WHSmith,’ wrote user, Micheal James.
‘You should try the boutique patisserie called Greggs,’ added danny90m.
‘Next time you’re in London, you should also try Tesco Express,’ said user Jade.
In the comments, Morgan herself said she was ‘today years old’ when she realised that The Works are actually all over the UK.
And, in a second video, when a commenter asked Morgan if The Works video had been completely serious she said: ‘Yes, I’m Canadian, I had no idea.’
While we’re not sure The Works quite matches up to the likes of Hatchard’s, the city’s oldest bookshop, or Daunt Books, often dubbed London’s most beautiful bookstore, if you want some new releases at a bargain price, it certainly does the job.
