WITH spring cleaning in full swing, households across the UK are pulling back the curtains and dusting off the homes.

But many people may be unaware of spots they are not reaching with their vacuum – and it could lead to a gross build-up of dirt.

You could be missing important spots around your house with the vacuum[/caption]

Joshua Warren, vacuum cleaner expert at AO.com, insists there 10 places that cleaning fans may be forgetting about.

Here, he reveals the overlooked parts of your home that you should be tackling with the hoover.

TUMBLE DRYER

“You should start with cleaning the appliances that clean”, says Joshua.

“Take time to clean the lint filter and use the crevice tool from your vacuum to get into all the nooks and crannies and give your tumble dryer a spotless clean.”

CURTAINS

Joshua says that cleaning your curtains can be a “big faff” when you take them down and wash them.

Instead, he recommends using your vacuum’s brush attachment to suck up dust to keep them looking cleaner for longer.

SKIRTING BOARDS & WOODWORK

Joshua revealed: “They can also benefit from the soft brush attachment of the vacuum cleaner.

“This is next level dusting! The dust and dirt will be lifted from the wood and sucked straight into the vacuum cleaner, meaning it is an ultra-efficient way to dust.

“Plus, it also means that you don’t have to get down on your hands and knees (presuming that your vacuum has a long enough handle) so it makes it a much easier job.”

FIXED UPHOLSTERY

If you have fixed upholstery on your soft furnishings, then it is vital that you pay regular attention to their upkeep.

Joshua points out that it is important to regularly remove dirt and dust from the surface so that it does not become ingrained in the fabric.

He added: “A regular vacuum of the sofa with the upholstery attachment will keep it looking newer for longer (and whilst you are there have a quick vacuum under the cushions too!)”

CEILINGS

“How often do you look up and notice a pesky cobweb that is just a little too high to reach?” asked Joshua.

“Your ceilings are another place where your vacuum can help. The long attachment will make easy work of reaching the hard to get to places in your home.

“Make sure that you use the soft brush attachment, so you don’t to scratch your paintwork. Get to work on all the areas above your head.”

LIGHT FITTINGS & LAMPSHADES

Joshua said: “They will also benefit massively from the soft brush attachment on your vacuum.

“This is especially true if you are worried about using cleaning products on delicate fabrics or finishes.”

MATTRESS

“When was the last time you hoovered your mattress?” Joshua questions.

“Or for that matter when was the last time your hoovered under the bed?

“The upholstery attachment is a great way to keep your mattress fresh.”

ELECTRICAL ITEMS

Joshua claims the soft brush attachment of your vacuum is also fantastic for getting the dirt from all those electricals that you don’t want water or cleaning products anywhere near.

He added: “The list is endless… your computer tower, the computer keyboard, and the fridge coil to name a few.”

BLINDS

“Much like your curtains, blinds can be a nightmare to clean”, Joshua says.

“To simplify this, again use your brush attachment to make light work of dust and keep them shiny and clean for longer.”

DRAWERS & WARDROBES

And finally, Joshua says: “If you have recently had a clear out of your drawers or wardrobe, then no doubt they were dusty and full of detritus. Get the vacuum in there!”
