Accra, Immediate Release 14th April 2025/

British Heart Foundation Lends Expertise as a Valued Supporting Partner at Landfills to Landmarks 2025

Landfills to Landmarks 2025 is proud to announce that the British Heart Foundation (BHF) is joining the initiative as a supporting partner. This collaboration underscores the BHF’s commitment to fostering sustainable practices in the textile trade and to driving industry-wide innovation through a focus on traceability, quality control, and ethical redistribution.

Landfills to Landmarks 2025 is a global summit and fashion showcase dedicated to addressing the urgent challenge of textiles waste and advancing the circular economy. Taking place from 22nd -23rd  May 2025 in Accra, Ghana, this landmark event will convene global leaders and industry stakeholders to drive meaningful change in the fashion and textile industries.

The British Heart Foundation currently partners with Sait Recycling, a merchant specialising in the re-use and recycling of textiles collected in the UK, and an additional partner of the Landfills to Landmarks initiative. The charity will be sharing its expertise and knowledge in this field to help Landfills to Landmarks build its robust end-to-end traceability system. As a result, the British Heart Foundation will gain greater visibility into the export process and quality assurance of second-hand clothing.

The British Heart Foundation Retail Director, Allison Swaine-Hughes and the charity’s Sustainability Manager, David Roman, will be attending the summit to deliver keynote addresses and sit on panel discussions.

Allison Swaine-Hughes, Retail Director at the British Heart Foundation, said: “The British Heart Foundation has a commitment to reduce, re-use and recycle our resources so that there is no avoidable waste. We will always start with re-using what we can within the UK, and we have a very strong retail presence which means we can maximize the potential for this route. However like most used clothing in the UK, the rest will be exported for re-use. That is why we are supporting this exciting initiative and lending our expertise to ensure end to end engagement in greater traceability of used textiles.”

This collaboration highlights BHF’s dedication to promoting sustainable solutions that not only address environmental challenges but also support economic growth and social wellbeing. By lending its expertise to this initiative, the British Heart Foundation reinforces its mission to support responsible reuse and drive lasting change in the global textile sector.

The event will bring together over 500 in-person delegates and up to 5,000 virtual participants from around the globe, including policymakers, business leaders, development agencies and sustainability experts. At its core, Landfills to Landmarks 2025 sets an ambitious national target: achieving 100% diversion of textile waste from Ghana’s landfills by 2050.

Additionally, the summit will introduce CremeXchange, the world’s first downstream textile traceability software, and unveil Worn Again Ghana, a pioneering model for transforming the second-hand retail landscape.

We invite media representatives, industry professionals, and all interested stakeholders to join us at this pivotal event as we work together to shape a more sustainable future for the global textile sector.
