Labour urged to investigate election candidate who liked offensive social media rant about Israel

LABOUR was today urged to investigate a Corbynista candidate who liked a post ranting about “antisemitism accusations” from the “hysterical” Israel lobby.

The Jewish Labour Movement reported a spike in complaints about Faiza Shaheen, who in a now-deleted post from last week also shared a proud snap of herself holding hands with Jeremy Corbyn.

Labour candidate for Chingford and Woodford Green, Faiza Shaheen, has triggered a spike in complaints to the Jewish Labour Movement[/caption]

Ms Shaheen is hoping to oust ex-Tory leader Sir Iain Duncan Smith from his Chingford and Woodford Green seat.

On X she liked a post alleging that anybody who is mildly critical of Israel is “assailed” by “professional organisations” who “every time” inflict “non-stop harassment” and “accuse you of antisemitism”.

The post added that “you can’t easily ignore” the Israel lobby because they “tend to be your friends or people who move in the same circles as you”.

A Jewish Labour Movement source said: “We’ve received a number of complaints about this from local Jewish members who are concerned about the tone of Ms Shaheen’s tweets and her pride on being pictured with a man who did so much harm to the party’s relationship with the Jewish community.

Labour slammed for giving under-18s vote while ‘sneering’ at National Service

“Given the large Jewish community in the area, and at a time of record levels of antisemitism, we expect Labour candidates to speak responsibly, not risk stoking community tensions.

“We expect the Party to look at this seriously at the highest levels.”

The source added: “Like the Jewish Labour Movement, many Jews are highly critical of Benjamin Netanyahu and his Government.

“The problem is when that crosses a line.”

The Tories today called for Ms Shaheen to be sacked immediately.

Deputy Chairman Jonathan Gullis said: “It is clear that the ghost of Jeremy Corbyn is still alive and well in today’s Labour Party.

“No matter what Sir Keir Starmer says about his party allegedly having changed, the fact that a diehard Corbyn backer has been allowed to become a candidate shows this is completely false.

“If Starmer had any integrity he would immediately sack her.”

Labour and Ms Shaheen have been approached for comment.
