- BSF finds 150 meter long tunnel in Chak Fakira border post area of Samba district
A 150-meter-long tunnel was found in the Chak Fakira border post area of Samba district on Wednesday evening, BSF officials said. BSF DIG SPS Sandhu said that with the information of the mine, the BSF had thwarted the intentions of Pakistani terrorists to obstruct the upcoming Amarnath Yatra. He said the tunnel had recently been dug from Pakistan and its mouth was two feet wide and 21 grains of sand had been recovered from it so far. He also said that information was being gathered in this regard.
The tunnel opens 700 meters away from the last village in India
An official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said information had been received about a newly dug tunnel 150 meters from the international border and 50 meters from the border fence in front of the Pakistani outpost Chaman Khurd (Faiz). He said that the tunnel opens at a distance of 300 meters from the border post Chak Fakira and 700 meters away from the last village of India on the border.
The number of tunnels increased to 11
The BSF has launched a large-scale operation to find a mine on the International Border (IB) after an encounter on April 22 in the Sunjwan area of Jammu. Two heavily armed Jaish-e-Mohammed militants wearing suicide jackets were shot dead in an encounter after they attacked a bus carrying Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel. This is the first such structure discovered by the BSF under the international border in the last 16 months, the official said. As a result, the number of such tunnels discovered in the last decade has increased to 11. Last year, the force discovered two tunnels in the Hiranagar sector of Kathua district in January.
