Tokyo: Japan’s Prime Minister (PM) Fumio Kishida has been diagnosed with Kovid-19 (Corona) and has canceled all his planned trips while he remains in isolation and recovers. Kishida had a slight fever and cough late Saturday night. Hence the PCR test for coronavirus came positive. “Prime Minister Kishida is in isolation at his residence,” Noriyuki Shikata, cabinet secretary for public affairs at the Prime Minister’s Office, said on Sunday.
The 65-year-old prime minister was on summer vacation last week and was due to return to work on Monday. It is not clear where and how he was infected. Cases of coronavirus infection have been increasing in Japan recently. However, most people, including Kishida, have been vaccinated.
