Russia: The meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Samarkand, Uzbekistan was much talked about. After the Ukraine war, India continued to buy crude oil from Russia despite the imposition of strict sanctions by several countries including the US. Now let’s know how much it benefited India. India decided to import crude despite the opposition of western countries. There was much discussion about the profit loss of this decision. India imported 6.6 lakh tonnes of crude oil from Russia in the first three months of this year. In the next 3 months it increased to 84.2 million tonnes. Meanwhile, Russia also gave a discount of 30 dollars per barrel. Due to this, the import cost of one ton of crude oil in the first 3 months was about 790 dollars. After that, in the next 3 months, it decreased to 740 dollars. Thus, India has benefited a total of 35,000 crores. The cost of imports from other sources increased during this period. In 2022, the import of cheap oil from Russia has increased 10 times.
