BEIJING: China has issued a third set of names in Chinese, Tibetan and Pinyin characters for places in the Indian state in a bid to assert its claim over Arunachal Pradesh. China’s Ministry of Civil Affairs today issued a set of standardized names of 11 places in Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday, calling Arunachal Pradesh as China Zhangnan, South Tibet and the Chinese names of many of its places, rivers, mountains etc. The 11 names of places in Chinese released by the Chinese ministry on Sunday include two land areas, two residential areas, five mountains, two rivers. It has listed these places along with categories, their sub-administrative districts, Global Times newspaper reported today.

This is the third set of Chinese names of places in Arunachal that China has released. It has previously issued the first and second sets of Chinese names for six places in 2017 and 15 in 2021. India has protested against this gesture of China and has asserted that Arunachal Pradesh is its integral part. In December 2021, External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said that Arunachal Pradesh has always been and will remain an integral part of India, and giving invented names to its places will not change this fact, he said.
