Sometimes there are moments in life when if you don’t laugh, you’ll just cry, and travel influencer Clarisa Murgia experienced a cracking one of these in Italy recently.
We know we can’t always trust everything we see online and Clarisa was reminded of this the hard way after arriving at her accommodation, for what was meant to be the trip of a lifetime.
The young woman, from Argentina, had paid through the nose to stay in a room she claims was advertised as having a balcony with stunning sea views.
However, when she arrived at the B&B, what she saw outside the window wasn’t exactly the breathtaking spectacle she’d been expecting.
Instead of being able to see the beach, she was greeted with a wall, which merely featured a large poster of the sea. Below this was nothing more than an alleyway.
Clarisa shared a video of the disappointing view on TikTok, joking that it was an ‘expectation vs reality’ situation. But she seemed in good humour about it, adding crying laughing emojis to her post.

At the start of her clip, she filmed the view from the window at a side angle, showing that the scene depicted on the poster did indeed look real, hence why she fell for the advertisement.
However, when she moved the camera closer to the glass, the jaw-dropping truth was revealed.
‘Rented a B&B with a sea view. I feel scammed guys,’ she said. ‘No one has ever deceived me like this before, hahaha.’
Clarisa’s TikTok quickly went viral, garnering over 247,000 likes and more than 1,800 comments with many agreeing the situation was laughable.
A user named @msoto840 wrote: ‘B&B was not lying tho!! You did get ocean view.’ While @laguachayk said: ‘Stappppp. This can’t be fr?!’
@mireillerrnn joked: ‘Not even my ex lied that much’. While @ms.jackie_ posted: ‘Omg that is hilarious.’
And @tiktok.user7.7 couldn’t believe their eyes, adding: ‘No way.’
Others thought it was very ‘creative’ of the B&B owner to list the room in this way, while some urged people to always check a hotel’s location before making a booking, just to be on the safe side.
It’s not known if Clarisa decided to stay in the room, or try and get one with a better view (if there even was one).
But she’s not the only one that’s fallen prey to sneaky advertising, as a fellow TikToker @ambershelbyy also shared a hilarious holiday fail on the video app.
Amber told viewers how she’d booked a last minute trip to New York and thought she’d paid for a room with a spectacular view of the Big Apple.
However, upon arriving, she discovered that the so-called view was actually just the Manhattan skyline printed onto the fabric of the blind on the window.
People in the comments were outraged on her behalf, stating it had to be ‘illegal’ and that the company behind the listing deserved ‘jail’.
But others thought the hotel had ‘jokes’, with @matthewmooon writing: ‘Idk, it’s funny enough to be 5 stars from me depending on what’s behind the shade.’
Others shared their own stories of being ‘duped’ by holiday advertisements, as @xleticiax3 said: ‘Girl Peru was the same way, had the Machu Pichu curtain!’
And @_.corgi recalled visiting a hotel where they thought the beds all had headboards, but they soon found the headboards were merely painted onto the wall.
