There’s also plenty of variety of living environments and lifestyles within the county itself. There’s Preston and Lancaster as the main urban centres, not to mention the ever-popular seaside town of Blackpool.

Further away from the big towns and suburbs, you’ll find no end of pretty villages and hamlets nestled into the Lancashire countryside. The coastline is also full of popular locations, ranging from bigger towns like Morecambe and Lytham St Anne’s, to more modest Silverdale. The latter is part of Arnside and Silverdale, one of Lancashire’s two areas of outstanding natural beauty. The other is the Forest of Bowland.

There’s also excellent coverage of both ‘good’ and ‘outstanding’ Ofsted-rated schools across much of the county. This, together with the beautiful surroundings, rich heritage and friendly people, makes Lancashire a prime spot for families.

What are average property prices in Lancashire like?

Lancashire is a comparatively inexpensive county to buy residential property. At the time of writing (March 2025) the average house price for Lancashire was just over £208,000. This is a full £82,000 less than the UK average house price, which was recorded as £290,000 in July 2024.

You can find a wide range of property types available in Lancashire, from sprawling period homes to smart new-build apartments. Currently, terraced houses in Lancashire average around £139,000, while semi-detached houses go for close to £205,000.
