Now you can easily identify the caller. Telecom companies have started displaying the name of the caller along with his number. The companies have already started its trials in Mumbai and Haryana. The government has instructed telecom companies to implement it across the country by July 15.

The company says that this is being done to prevent cyber fraud. On apps like Truecaller, the name is displayed on the mobile screen based on the information provided while creating the name ID. Similarly, now the name of the caller will appear on the mobile. Telecom companies have been ordered to do so by the Department of Telecommunications. Not only this, this step is included in the agenda of the first 100 days of the Modi government.
Earlier the government had planned to launch a service like Truecaller. Under that system the name of the caller was displayed. In 2022 the telecom regulator released a consultation paper suggesting ways to implement this system. The regulator finalized the recommendations for network providers such as Reliance Jio, Vodafone-Idea and Airtel after receiving input from stakeholders and engaging with telecom companies for nearly a year.

According to TRAI network providers across the country will be required to use name recognition provided by telephone customers in their Customer Application Form (CAF). Under this system all service providers have to provide this facility to customers in case of request. In short, the system dictates that the names entered while purchasing the SIM card will be visible to the other person while calling. Also, for businesses seeking large number of connections, TRAI will also give them an option to show a preferred name instead of the name appearing in the customer application form. That is, the name of the company can be shown.
