The Nobel Prize for Physics 2024 has been announced. This year the award was given to Jeffrey E., known as the godfather of AI. Hinton and American scientist John J. Hopefield has found. He was awarded this honor for his development of new techniques related to machine learning which is based on artificial neurons.
With this, machines are taught to think and understand like a human brain. However Jeffrey, for whom he received the Nobel Prize in Machine Learning, described the evolving form of AI as a threat to humanity. He resigned from Google in 2023 in protest of AI. He said in an interview to the New York Times that a large number of jobs will be lost due to AI. Misinformation will spread rapidly in the society, which will not be able to be stopped. Jeffrey regretted holding himself responsible for the AI.
In announcing the Nobel Prize, the committee said the two scientists had taught the world to use computers in new ways. Earlier on Monday, the names of the winners of the honor for the field of physiology or medicine were announced. Victor Ambrose and Gary Ruvkun of America have been selected for the Nobel Prize in Medicine this year. Both were awarded this honor for their discovery of micro RNA.
Who got the Nobel for 2023 in this category?
Earlier last year i.e. 2023 Nobel Prize in this category was awarded jointly to Pierre Augustini, Frank Krause and Anne L'Huillier. The honor was given for studies on electrons. The award was given for experimental methods in which attosecond pulses of light were generated to study the dynamics of electrons in matter. Anne Huillier became the fifth woman to win a Nobel in this field of physics.
The winners will get 8.90 crores
The award was announced by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. An amount of Rs 8.90 crore will be given to both the prize winners announced today. This amount will be divided equally between them. The Nobel Prize distribution will continue till October 14.
