New Delhi: This year too, the names of three scientists have been jointly selected for the Nobel Prize in Physics. This year’s Nobel Prize in Physics for his contributions to quantum physics goes to Ellen Aspect, John F. Clouser (John F. Clouser) and Anton Zeilinger (Anton Zeilinger) have been awarded. The three physicists have been called ‘pioneering quantum information science’ by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. Of these three, Alain Aspect is from France while John F. Klauser and Anton Zillinger are from America and Australia. Earlier on Monday, Swedish scientist Svante Pabo received the Nobel Prize in Medicine.
Nobel committee member Eva Olnus said “Quantum information science is a dynamic and rapidly developing field. It has broad and potential implications in areas such as secure information transfer, quantum computing and sensing technology.” He further said, ‘Knowledge of quantum physics has opened doors to other worlds.’
Last year, the prize was awarded to three scientists – Succero Manabe, Klaus Hasselmann and Giorgio Parisi – whose work has helped explain and predict the complex forces of nature. This has expanded our understanding of climate change. Nobel Prize Week begins this Monday. Swedish scientist Svante Pabo has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine for the first successful detection of Neanderthal DNA.
Who founded Nobel?
The Nobel Prizes for Medicine, Physics, Chemistry, Literature and Peace were established based on the bequest of Sir Alfred Nobel, a wealthy Swedish industrialist and inventor of dynamite. The first Nobel Prize was awarded in 1901, five years after Sir Alfred Nobel’s death. The Nobel in Economics, originally named the ‘Bank of Sweden Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel’, was not established based on Alfred Nobel’s will. Launched in 1968 by the Central Bank of Sweden.
What do the winners get apart from the prize?
Nobel Prize winners in each field carry a prize of 10 million kroner (approximately nine million dollars) with a gold medal and certificate. The winners are honored on December 10 every year. Alfred Nobel died on December 10, 1896. A total of 609 Nobel Prizes have been awarded in various fields from 1901 to 2021.
Who is nominated for the Nobel?
Thousands of people around the world are eligible to submit nominations for the Nobel Prize. They include university professors, lawmakers, former Nobel laureates and members of the Nobel Committee itself. Although nominations are kept secret for up to 50 years, those who submit them sometimes make their recommendations public, as is particularly the case with the Nobel Peace Prize.
What does it take to win a Nobel Prize?
Patience is most needed in those who want to win the Nobel Prize. Scientists often have to wait decades for their work to be recognized by members of the Nobel Prize committee, who want to ensure that any discovery or breakthrough stands the test of time. However, this is contrary to Nobel’s advice, which states that the prizes should be awarded ‘to those who, during the past year, have made a great contribution to mankind.’ The Peace Prize Committee is the only committee which is regular. Winners are awarded. Based on the achievements achieved in the previous year.
